The difference between B1 and B2 flame retardant wires

:2025-04-10

The main differences between B1 and B2 flame retardant wires are reflected in their combustion performance, safety, cost, and scope of application.

  First, combustion performance

B1 grade flame retardant wire: has higher flame retardant performance, can effectively prevent flame spread and reduce flame intensity under specified conditions. Its flame spread length, peak heat release rate, combustion growth rate index and other key indicators are better than B2 grade wire. Specifically, the flame spread length of B1 grade flame retardant wire does not exceed 1.5 meters, the peak heat release rate does not exceed 30 kW, and the combustion growth rate index FIGRA does not exceed 150W/s.

B2 grade flame retardant wire: Compared with B1 grade wire, its flame retardant performance is slightly lower, but it can still slow down the spread of fire to a certain extent.

  II. Security

Class B1 flame retardant wires: Due to their superior combustion performance, Class B1 wires provide longer escape times and lower health risks in the event of a fire. They produce less SMoke and toxic gases, helping to reduce visibility issues and health hazards in fires.

B2-grade flame-retardant wires: Although they can also slow down the spread of fire to a certain extent, they may generate more smoke and toxic gases when burned than B1-grade wires, thus increasing the risk of fire.

  III. Cost

B1 grade flame retardant wire: Due to the need for more complex production processes and higher quality raw materials, the cost of B1 grade wire is usually higher than that of B2 grade wire.

B2 grade flame retardant wire: the production cost is relatively low, so the price is more affordable.

  IV. Scope of application

B1 grade flame retardant wires: mainly suitable for occasions with higher safety requirements, such as subways, airports, hospitals and other relatively densely populated places with high flame retardant combustion levels. These places have extremely high fire safety requirements, and it is necessary to choose flame retardant wires with excellent performance to ensure personnel safety and property safety.

B2 grade flame retardant wire: It may be used in applications where flame retardant performance is not so strict, such as ordinary commercial buildings, office buildings, etc. Although these places also have certain fire safety requirements, their requirements are relatively low compared to places with dense populations and high flame retardant combustion grades.

In summary, there are significant differences between B1 and B2 grade flame retardants in terms of combustion performance, safety, cost, and scope of application. When selecting, comprehensive consideration should be given to factors such as fire risk, personnel safety, property protection, and economic cost in the specific location.
